ADSMKE Marsabit Station

About Us

Marsabit Station was started in 2002 as a sub-office under Sololo Station. In 2006 the Station was fully established, over the years it grew both in terms of resources and extended service provisions to its target populations. Marsabit remained to be one of the most vibrant stations in the region, the station’s area of interventions included food security, livelihoods, HIV/AIDS, Health and Nutrition, Disaster Risk Reductions, Emergency Relief, CCMP, WASH, Peace Building, Advocacy and Community empowerment among others. Our programs focused on improving livelihoods and building resilience of the communities to withstand the impacts of hazardous conditions. Our advocacy and community empowerment programmes enabled the voices of the marginalized segments of the communities to be heard by those concerned and policy makers. ADSMKE in Marsabit works with partners to serve all people regardless of religion, race, ethnicity, gender, age, and political ideologies. We serve all the communities including the Borana,Gabra, Rendile,Samburu, Garri, Sakuye Turkana, Dasanach, Burji, among others living in the County. Women, children, the aged and people with special needs are also involved in decision making in all our project implementations right from initiation till the end. Our project implementation strategies included use of participatory tools to promote beneficiary participation in project identification, implementations and future sustainability of the projects. This earned the organization community trust and acceptances.

With our offices located within ACK St.Peters Cathedral Marsabit Compound, ADSMKE Marsabit Station enjoyed the centrality of its location which makes it easy for the organization to reach out to all the Sub Counties without much straining. This has helped our service deliveries effective and efficient.

The partners who actively walked with us to improve the lives and living standards of the communities living in Marsabit over the years included Bread for the World, Tear Fund, Christian Aid, Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe, Government of Kenya, County Government of Marsabit, Food for the Hungry, Blood Water Mission, and CHAK among others

TUMAINI MEDICAL CENTRE

Tumaini Medical Centre is a Faith Based Clinic managed by ADSMKE – Marsabit. The clinic offers curative and preventive health care services to the general public. It also offers comprehensive health care services (CCC) to all patients especially to people living with HIV/AIDS.

The clinic was founded under the support of Blood Water Mission in the year 2009 with the main objective being to offer HIV/AIDS services in the Northern Kenya, Marsabit County.

Blood Water Mission helped in restructuring and equipping the facility that is, laboratory equipments like CD4 count machine, refrigerators, haematology machine, biochemistry and microscopy machines and computers. They also funded continual servicing of the machines.

In the year 2011, the program was handed over to PEPFAR (PRESIDENT’S EMERGENCY PLAN FOR AIDS RELIEF) through CHAK (CHRISTIAN CHURCH ASSOCIATION OF KENYA). Major support was on staff remunerations, purchasing of opportunistic Infections drugs, Laboratory reagents, servicing of the machines, providing funds for minor repairs of the facility, defaulter tracing and motivation of Community Health Workers (CHWs) and Community Health Volunteers (CHVs)

In September 2016, PEPFAR pulled out their support in Seven (7) Counties, Marsabit County being one of them. The transition affected Faith-based organizations’ (FBOs) facilities Tumaini Medical Centre included and we were largely dependent on PEPFAR support for HIV treatment and the related laboratory support services including healthcare workers.

The transition of support affected HIV service delivery especially free service provision to HIV clients. Since the services offered by Tumaini were highly acknowledged by the GoK, the government extended a helping hand to the facility where 7 health care personnel attached to the facility and medical supplies provided to ensure the continuity of the service provision at the facility.   Services offered at the facility are of high quality, the facility is equipped with modern machines. The staffs are professionals who highly observed the confidentiality of the clients. This made Tumaini Marsabit to be the most trusted facility for the people living with HIV/AIDS.

Tumaini offers comprehensive health care services which includes;
